The Foundation is supporting exciting work being undertaken by Dr Alesia Preite, a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Heidelberg, on ‘Nature, Nurture and Virtue in Plato’s Philosophy’. Dr Preite will be looking closely at the relationship between ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ in the Timaeus, the Republic and the Laws, with particular emphasis on the interplay of the development in children of the physiological processes with the development of psychological and cognitive abilities in the context of moral education.
In the early part of 2025, Dr Preite will travel to the US to spend time working with Professor Verity Harte at Yale University and to present aspects of her work to members of the Ancient Philosophy community there.
The scope of this projective is impressive and covers some fascinating questions of relevance to education in modern times relating to the early education of children and the factors that are needed for human beings to become philosophers.
