The Foundation believes that to sustain scholarship in the Platonic Tradition, it is vital that schools continue to educate students to be proficient in Ancient Greek and have a broad education in classical studies. In the UK, we continue to support the English charity, known as Classics for All, to introduce the study of Latin and Ancient Greek and classical studies into state schools. Classics for All has been very successful in the work it does. Since it was formed four years ago, it has trained over 5,000 teachers in nearly 1,500 schools.
The latest data from The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) shows a noticeable boost in popularity for classics in the UK:
“At GCSE, entries to classical subjects rose by 24.7 per cent, from 3,595 to 4,480, while at A-level entries increased by 20 per cent, from 4,875 to 5,855.”
We are proud to be supporting Classics for All who have played a significant part in promoting the study of the classics in state schools.
